Casey has a new favorite toy. Casey has had lots of favorite toys. There was the Giraffe, which was durable enough to last several days. The sheep, which lasted about 30 seconds. The frog, the Shrek doll, and the terrycloth bone. We don’t talk about the terrycloth bone.
The long and short of it is that Casey goes through plush toys in the blink of an eye. We’d decided that replacing plush toys was becoming too expensive, so Casey had to live with her rubber squeaky toys and her sterilized beef bone.
So for the past 2 or 3 months, Casey has been ABSOLUTELY TORTURED by all the baby toys that have come rolling in due to generous family members, friends, and co-workers. She has been so interested in all the toys, but has been SO well behaved, and hasn’t taken any of them. Kate and I are suckers for our dog, and we thought that all this good behavior deserved a reward. A plush reward. So we spent the $5 on the gator you see here.
It is officially Casey’s new toy. The most amazing part is, that gator has been in our house, and intact, for NEARLY TWO WEEKS. Casey is so cute with it. Late last night I migrated from the computer up to our bedroom, and woke Casey up to move her up there, and I picked up the gator. She was all about taking the gator from me and CARRYING IT UP WITH HER TO BED. It’s like her teddy bear! Or her security blanket! HOW CUTE IS SHE?!?!?!
Wow. When the baby gets here the cute-quotient in this house is going to be so out-of-control.
I’m just taking a moment to quickly update the links on the right hand side. My coworker and cube-neighbor Laura has moved her blog, and is now taking advantage of Blogger’s wonderful features. She used to use MySpace, which, um, for lack of a better word, sucks. I suppose it’s okay if you’re into the whole social-networking aspect of blogging, but I’m really not.
And we have a new entry into the blogging-fray – Amelia! I know her as “Amy” from my undergraduate years (Go Hokies!), but apparently that is SOOOO 1998, and she goes by Amelia now. Which is cool. It avoids me having to list “Amy” twice in my list of “People I Know”.
In other news, my reading binge has slowed considerably, and I’m in the middle of both Catch 22 and Slaughterhouse Five. Catch 22 has been a STRUGGLE. For some reason I’m just not very interested. So I’ve currently abandoned it several hundred pages in, and am plowing through Slaughterhouse Five. Which is depressing. The Time Traveler’s Wife is next.
For those of you who think my math is wrong, it’s not. That’s because, for once, I am NOT referring to Kate’s due date, or anything having to do with the baby. I’m basically using this blog to provide free advertising (again) for the upcoming blockbuster (I hope) movie, Serenity. Because you know the 15 people my blog reaches will make all the difference.
So once again I point you to trailers, a review of a trailer (this fellow amusingly refers to the “hot fox super ninja” multiple times), and then defer to Whedonesque for a ridiculous amount of other links and information about the movie and other Joss Whedon-related news and projects.
Serenity comes out on September 30. Go see it. SERENITY NOW!!!
I had a good 2 years in this house with a nice, private office (shared with Kate, naturally). Well the office is now in the living room, and what was formerly the office is now the nursery. Do I miss the private office? Not really. But I’m REALLY happy with how the nursery turned out. A big shout-out goes to my in-laws, who in their insane generosity, provided nearly all the furniture in the nursery. My parents provided the furniture for the baby’s wall in our room, but our room isn’t nearly as clean as the nursery, so doesn’t get featured he re!
I’m not a photographer, so you’ll have to believe me when I say it looks better than my photos make it look! So without any further ado, I present, the nursery!
With Kate’s due-date rapidly approaching, I’m getting lots of questions about when the baby is due. While I’m definitely keeping a running count, as the title shows, the real answer is: ANY FREAKING DAY NOW. We’re both unbelievably anxious to meet this little creature that’s been growing inside her for nearly 9 months. We’re also hopeful that this creature is a baby, and if the sonograms are accurate like they tell us, a boy.
I haven’t been posting here as often as I would like (and bloggers all over the world say “and this is unique how?”), and I can’t imagine that I will post MORE often when the baby comes, so this is an attempt to get a couple of items out there while I have the chance.
The first is the obligatory cute picture of Casey (above), which is something that this blog definitely needs more of. Yes, I just ended a sentence with a preposition. So sue me.
Secondly, in this post Kate provided a fun picture of our backyard where we had just planted some flowers, were looking for a way to turn the stump into a birdbath, and the hydrangea hadn’t quite bloomed. The summer has been good to our garden. Perhaps a bit too good. To preserve the suspense, no thumbnails for you.
Finally, in this new jungle of a back yard, I found this pretty fellow, who was just hanging out waiting for a yummy morsel to fly by.
