So Kate and I are in the market for a digital camera. After doing a bit of research, we are thinking that we might upgrade from a regular point-and-shoot to something a bit fancier, but not quite an SLR. We’re currently looking at the Canon Powershot S3, which I think is the step up that we want. The problem is, it’s not available until May. One site I found said May 31!

Now normally this wouldn’t be a big deal. But as anybody with children can tell you, one or two months can be an eternity. And as other parents obsessed with photographing their babies can attest to, a week without a camera is too long. Anything longer than that is simply unacceptable. So do I break down and purchase a camera like the ELPH or the A700? Or do we risk missing every key moment of Simon’s life for the next month or two? I have hope that Penn Camera near us will have one in stock this weekend, but I think the woman I spoke to last week might have been mistaken. These are truly the decisions that rend one’s soul. Or something equally melodramatic. Any suggestions?

I swiped this photo from my the mantle over my parent’s fireplace today. I think it’s a great picture. I’m pretty sure it was taken at my grandfather’s house. Isn’t Erin’s cranium enormous?! She was bald like that for what seemed like forever.

Cute Boy!I recently added a Flickr badge to the right sidebar. I discovered Flickr, and have found it to be the most user-friendly photo-sharing software on the Web. I’m a big fan of the application.

I’ve been particularly happy with the ability to mark photos as available to the general public, as we have folks who want to see little Simon for whom registering with a Web site is. . .difficult. Even if we didn’t have technically-challenged friends and family, I’m all about applications giving you the ability to customize to your heart’s content. For those who want to keep photos private, you can limit who sees them by indicating that other Flickr users are family or friends.

The ability to share photos is only one of the many features that I like about Flickr. The ability to add tags, comments, and notes (which are different from comments) to photos, as well as easy upload tools, and the ability to order prints online (and pick them up at a local Target, if you so wish!) are all features that draw me to the service.

I’m currently only using the free Flickr offering, but I’m considering upgrading. I want feedback from anybody who is currently a Flickr Pro user. Is it worth the upgrade? It seems like it might be worth it for the increase in bandwidth alone. Oh and for those people who recommended another tool, I looked into it and just wasn’t as happy with the interface.

So check out Flickr when you get a chance, and upload your photos!

I used to use Snapfish to develop pictures. Since we got our digital camera back in November 2003, I haven’t used them at all. However, I still get junk email from them advertising their services. Normally I just delete them, but I thought the photo-stamps looked particularly cool.

However, they’re way freaking expensive. So nevermind.

Ever wonder where a peep comes from?

An egg, of course!

Casey seems very interested.

Here comes the Peep!

I see you.

Mostly out.

Free at last!

She has an evil glint in her eye. . .

Ah! Noooooooo!!!! Somebody save me!

Casey doesn’t care that this peep has lost it’s head. Poor peep.

And thus endeth the life of the peep. Tune in next week for the Stay Puffed Marshmallow man story. It’s not as horrific.
